UX designer resume examples & writing guide for 2026

Three UX resumes at junior, senior and lead level, each rendered in the template the page names and pulled apart note by note. Every one says what the research found, what changed on the screen, and what the change moved.

What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Surfaces owned, business named

Checkout and search on a hundred and forty million dollar business. Naming the surfaces says what this designer is responsible for, and the revenue says how much rides on getting it right.

  2. 2

    Two measures, opposite directions

Completion up, support contacts down. One of those could be a seasonal fluke. Both moving the right way across the same work is much harder to explain away.

  3. 3

    Experiments behind the lift

Four experiments, and the revenue they were worth. Attributing a conversion change to a redesign is where most design resumes quietly overclaim, and naming the tests is what keeps it honest.

  4. 4

    Interviews that explained a metric

Twenty-two interviews showing people could not find shipment status, then a thirty-eight percent drop in those contacts. Research and outcome in one line, in the order they happened.

  5. 5

    A project stopped by research

Six weeks, forty-eight participants, and a personalization build that never happened. Stopping work saves more money than shipping it, and almost nobody puts it on a design resume.

  6. 6

    Health years kept to two

The earlier portal keeps the drop-off number and the accessibility audit, and nothing else. Retail is where this reader is deciding, so retail is where the lines went.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

The headline names the audience. The summary gives two before-and-after measures rather than adjectives. The bullets pair each research activity with what shipped because of it, and the support year stays on the page because it is where the problem was found in the first place.

Typical titles: UX designer, Junior UX designer, UX researcher

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

The headline names surfaces and the business behind them. The summary moves two numbers in opposite directions. The bullets carry the experiments behind a conversion lift, the interviews that explained a support metric, and a project research stopped. The health years keep two lines.

Typical titles: Senior UX designer, UX designer, Experience designer

  • Senior

    7+ years

Scope moves from screens to a practice: designers guided, services covered, a compliance count delivered ahead of a deadline, time on task measured properly, a repository other teams use, and a redesign stopped at discovery. The retail years keep one line.

Typical titles: Lead UX designer, UX manager, Principal designer

04Summary

Weak

Passionate UX designer with a user-centered mindset, skilled in wireframing, prototyping and creating intuitive, delightful experiences that solve real problems.

Strong

Senior UX designer with six years in health and retail, owning checkout and search for a $140M online business. Lifted checkout completion from 47% to 61% and cut order-related support contacts by 38%.

Two industries, the surfaces owned, the size of the business and two numbers moving the right way. A hiring manager can decide whether to open the portfolio in one read. The weak version is a list of tools and a mindset, and it would sit on any of the several hundred UX resumes arriving for the same posting.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Conducted user research and usability testing to inform design decisions, creating wireframes and prototypes that improved the overall user experience.

Strong

  • Cut claim submission drop-off from 41% to 24% by splitting a single 14-field form into 3 steps.

A metric with a baseline, and the specific change that moved it. An interviewer can ask why three steps rather than two, and there is an answer. The weak bullet lists the standard activities of the job, improves an experience nobody measured, and it describes every UX designer who has ever been employed anywhere.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Process described where outcomes belong

Fix: Discovery, ideation, wireframes, prototypes, iteration. Every UX resume has that sentence and it separates nobody from anybody. Replace each stage with what came out of it: the finding, the change you made, and the number that moved afterwards.

  2. No portfolio link, or a link with no case studies

Fix: Hiring managers give a portfolio a few minutes. Put the link in the header and make sure two or three cases carry business context, the research, what you decided and the result. Thumbnails and unsolicited redesigns of famous apps show craft and nothing about judgment.

  3. Research described without saying what changed

Fix: Interviews run and tests moderated are inputs. Name the finding, the design change it produced, and what happened to the metric. A page full of research activity with no shipped consequence reads as a designer who was not listened to, or who did not push.

  4. Accessibility left off the page entirely

Fix: Public sector buyers and regulated industries now require a stated standard, and procurement asks for evidence. Say which standard you worked to, how many screens, and what the audit found. It is the fastest credibility signal available on this resume.

  5. Tools listed as if they were the skill

Fix: Every applicant has the same four tools, so the list sorts nobody. Keep it to one line and spend the space on what you studied, what you decided and what it was worth. A research or analytics tool is worth more than another drawing one.

08Format and template

One page, a portfolio link in the header, and a metric in the first line of every role. Put the numbers in the text where a parser can read them rather than inside an image, and keep the tool list to one line. Case-study detail belongs in the portfolio, not on the resume. This example uses Orange Creative. The same content works in Standard, Pink Accent and Red & Gray Modern.

09Questions UX designers ask

What numbers belong on a UX designer resume?

Task success and time on task with baselines, completion and drop-off rates on the flows you changed, support contacts before and after, conversion where you ran experiments, and the size of the audience each product serves. Add research counts only when paired with what shipped: sessions run, participants, and the fix list that came out of them. Accessibility findings closed is worth a line of its own.

Do I still need a portfolio if my resume has metrics?

Yes, and the resume exists mostly to get it opened. Put the link in the header and keep two or three deep case studies rather than a gallery. Each should carry the business context, the research, the decisions you personally made and the outcome. Reviewers spend a few minutes at most, so depth beats breadth, and a case that admits what did not work reads as more credible than one that does not.

How do I write a UX resume when I cannot share the metrics?

Use relative figures and scope. A third fewer support contacts, a flow used by six figures of people a month, a form cut from fourteen fields to five. Say what you are not able to disclose rather than leaving the space blank, because a reader assumes the worst about a missing number. Scope, decisions and constraints are all sayable even when the absolute values are not.

Do UX certifications help?

Barely. The federal listing for this occupation carries no license and fifteen certifications from seven organizations, none of which is a design credential. What employers ask for instead is a bachelor's degree, evidence of research practice and a portfolio. A course certificate can help a career changer show intent, but it is worth one line at the bottom rather than a place in the headline.

Should the resume mention AI tools?

Only where you can say what it changed. Naming a model in the skills line signals nothing. Saying that you generated twelve concept directions in a day and tested three of them with users, or that you drafted survey questions and rewrote them after a pilot, shows judgment about where the tool helps. Employers are compressing roles, so evidence of doing more with the same time is worth stating plainly.

How long should a UX designer resume be?

One page, through lead level. Eleven years fits once earlier roles collapse to a line holding the product and one metric. Cut the process paragraph first, then the tool inventory, then any bullet describing an activity with no consequence. What survives is the surface you owned, the research you ran, what you changed and what it moved, which is what the portfolio review will work through anyway.
