What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Headline carries budget and reports

B2B demand generation, a $640,000 budget and 2 direct reports in one line. Manager postings ask for a budget owned and people managed, so the headline answers both before the summary starts.

  2. 2

Pipeline with its share of bookings

Marketing-sourced pipeline from $6.1 million to $11.4 million and 34% of new bookings. Pipeline is the number a B2B marketing manager is judged on, and the share of bookings shows sales agrees with the attribution.

  3. 3

    Practices and platforms split

Demand generation, ABM, automation and budget management on one side, HubSpot, Salesforce, LinkedIn Ads and GA4 on the other, with the PCM and HubSpot certifications dated. A hiring leader can see both what this manager does and what it is done in.

  4. 4

Cost per lead cut, move named

$410 to $265 per sales-qualified lead by moving 40% of spend from search to LinkedIn matched audiences. The mechanism matters: it tells a hiring leader the manager reads channel data and acts on it.

  5. 5

    Webinars counted through to meetings

Eighteen a year, 310 registrants, 41% attendance and 22% of attendees to a sales meeting. Event postings ask for registration flows and follow-up. Carrying the funnel to the meeting is what a manager adds.

  6. 6

    Scoring rebuilt, conversion rate moved

Lead scoring and 9 nurture tracks rebuilt, MQL-to-SQL from 11% to 19% in two quarters. Marketing automation postings name lead scoring and nurture explicitly, and a conversion rate with a baseline proves the rebuild worked.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

Experience leads even after one year, because the channels produced list, revenue and return-on-ad-spend numbers with baselines. The headline names the channels and the certifications. The internship reads as B2B campaign work in contacts and registrants, and the sidebar names every tool by product with its certificate beside it.

Typical titles: Marketing coordinator, Marketing specialist, Associate marketing manager

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

The headline adds the budget and the direct reports. Each role opens with what was owned, then pipeline, cost per lead, webinar funnel and conversion rate, each with a baseline and a mechanism. The consumer-brand years keep three lines with their own numbers, and the sidebar splits practices from platforms.

Typical titles: Marketing manager, Demand generation manager, Brand marketing manager

  • Senior

    7+ years

Scope replaces channels: team, budget, pipeline, acquisition cost, launches and a conference, each with the decision behind it. The demand generation years keep one line of numbers, the coordinator years keep their dates, and the sidebar pairs the practices a director is hired for with the platforms they run on.

Typical titles: Senior marketing manager, Director of marketing, Head of demand generation

04Summary

Weak

Results-driven marketing professional with a passion for storytelling and a proven track record of driving brand awareness and engagement across digital channels.

Strong

Marketing manager with five years in consumer and B2B marketing, the last three owning demand generation for a 220-person software company. Grew marketing-sourced pipeline from $6.1 million to $11.4 million a year on a $640,000 budget, and cut cost per qualified lead from $410 to $265.

The setting, the function owned, a pipeline number with its baseline, the budget and the unit cost. A marketing leader can check each in the CRM and the finance report. The weak version could open any marketer's resume and offers nothing a screener can look up.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Managed digital marketing campaigns across multiple channels to increase brand awareness and generate leads for the sales team.

Strong

  • Cut cost per sales-qualified lead from $410 to $265 by moving 40% of paid spend from search to LinkedIn Ads matched audiences.

A unit cost with a baseline, the share of budget moved and the channel it went to. An interviewer can ask what happened to search volume when the money moved, and the candidate can answer. The weak bullet is the posting itself and could sit on any marketer's resume in any industry unchanged.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Awareness and engagement claimed instead of pipeline and cost

Fix: B2B marketing managers are measured on marketing-sourced pipeline, its share of bookings and cost per qualified lead. Consumer marketers are measured on revenue by channel and return on ad spend. Write those numbers with baselines, and let awareness go.

  2. Growth percentages with no starting point or period

Fix: Increased leads by 200% means nothing without the base and the time frame. Write both ends and the period: pipeline from $6.1 million to $11.4 million a year, cost per lead from $410 to $265. A hiring leader will ask for the baseline anyway.

  3. Budget and team left off the manager's resume

Fix: Manager postings ask for a budget owned and people managed, sometimes in the title. Put both in the headline and the first bullet: $640,000 budget, 2 direct reports, a quarterly target. Without them the resume reads as a specialist's.

  4. Platforms described as marketing technology

Fix: Postings name HubSpot, Salesforce, Marketo, Demandbase, LinkedIn Ads and GA4 one by one, and O*NET's postings data marks Salesforce, HubSpot and Marketo as hot technologies for the occupation. List the products you run, and show each inside a bullet with a result.

  5. The channel you inherited counted as your result

Fix: State the handover number. A 4.1 return on ad spend is one thing. Up from 2.8 when you took the account is your work. Managers who write the starting point are trusted with the rest of the page.

08Format and template

Two columns suit this role when the sidebar holds the practices, platforms and certifications and the main column carries the summary, the work and the education, which is how Red & Gray Modern lays it out. A hiring marketing leader reads the summary for pipeline and budget, then the bullets for baselines, then the tools. Keep the numbers in the main column where they read in order, and the platform list beside them. The same content works in Standard, Pink Accent and Beige Border. Whichever you choose, the budget, the team and the pipeline number stay in the first three lines.

09Questions marketing managers ask

What numbers should a marketing manager put on a resume?

The ones your CRM and finance team already track. B2B: marketing-sourced pipeline and its share of new bookings, cost per marketing-qualified and sales-qualified lead, MQL-to-SQL conversion, webinar registration and attendance, and the budget owned. Consumer: revenue by channel, return on ad spend, list growth, conversion rate and customer acquisition cost. Give each one a baseline and a period, and name the reporting system, because the first interview question is where the number came from.

How do I show budget and team on a marketing manager resume?

In the headline and the first bullet of the current role: the budget in dollars, the number of direct reports and the target you are held to. Postings for manager roles ask for a budget owned and people led, and senior postings add agency management and hiring. If you have not managed people yet, name the agencies, freelancers or interns you directed and the spend you controlled, because that is the evidence a hiring leader will accept as the first step.

Which marketing certifications are worth listing?

Platform certifications when the posting names the platform, and the American Marketing Association's Professional Certified Marketer when you are past coordinator level. CareerOneStop lists 40 certifications for the occupation, from the PCM and Meta's marketing credentials to vertical ones for home building and hospitality. None is required, so list each with its date under the tools it covers, and let the pipeline and budget lines above carry the case. HubSpot and Google Ads certificates expire, so keep the dates current.

How do I move from marketing coordinator to marketing manager?

Show the manager's numbers inside the coordinator role: a channel you own end to end with its revenue or pipeline, a budget you control with its return, a campaign you led from plan to report, and anyone you directed, even an agency or an intern. Manager postings ask for five or more years in marketing, two or three of them leading people, hands-on time in a CRM and automation platform, and KPI reporting to leadership. Write those lines now, with baselines, and the title change is a step rather than a jump.

Should a marketing manager resume mention AI tools?

Only where a tool produced a result you can name. Marketing leaders report an AI skills gap on their teams and postings increasingly list AI-assisted workflows beside analytics and automation, so a line such as a nurture program rebuilt with an AI copy assistant that lifted click-through with a baseline earns its place. A skills chip that says AI, with nothing behind it, reads as the awareness claim it is. Write the workflow and the number, or leave it out.

How long should a marketing manager resume be?

One page through about ten years, which the senior example holds by giving earlier roles one line each. Pipeline, budget and team make the case at this level, not a list of every campaign since the first job. A second page is fair for a director with several brands or business lines to account for. When you cut, drop channel duties first and keep every dollar figure, unit cost and conversion rate with its baseline.
