What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Budget size defines the role

A $2.4M annual paid budget, on a B2B software company. Digital marketing manager means something different at $200K and at $5M, and the number is how a director decides which of those this is.

  2. 2

    Acquisition cost against volume

Customer acquisition cost from $1,840 to $1,180 with new logos held above 340 a year. Cost and volume together is the pair a demand-generation director reads first, because either alone can be gamed.

  3. 3

    People and agency both named

Two specialists and one agency directed. At this level a manager is usually the seam between an internal team and outside help, and a director hiring wants to know both sides have been run before.

  4. 4

    Pipeline, not just leads

Marketing-sourced pipeline from $9.1M to $16.7M, with the budget shift that caused it. Leads are a marketing number and pipeline is a company number, and the second is the one a board hears about.

  5. 5

    Measurement rebuilt after the migration

GA4 and Tag Manager rebuilt so platform and CRM counts agree within 3%. Everyone claims to be data-driven. The gap between two systems is the number that says the data was actually made trustworthy.

  6. 6

    Agency years kept with revenue

Four renewals worth $310K, from moving reporting to a live dashboard. Agency experience is often written as a list of clients. Written as retained revenue, it reads as commercial judgment instead.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

The headline carries the channels and the spend, and the summary carries the acquisition cost with the volume it protected. Each bullet holds a budget, a rate, a test count or a list size. The internship stays because it has a list size, and the certification is the one the platform itself issues.

Typical titles: Digital marketing specialist, Paid media specialist, Marketing coordinator

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

The headline pairs the budget with the business model. The current role opens with budget, platforms and people, then acquisition cost against volume, pipeline, demo requests and the measurement rebuild. The agency years keep three lines carrying spend, retained revenue and people trained.

Typical titles: Digital marketing manager, Demand generation manager, Growth marketing manager

  • Senior

    7+ years

Scope replaces the channel: revenue moved, budget held, people led, paid dependence reduced, retention raised, tool spend cut. Each bullet pairs the number with the decision behind it. The software years keep one line with the budget and the acquisition cost, and the degree closes the page.

Typical titles: Head of digital marketing, Director of digital marketing, Senior digital marketing manager

04Summary

Weak

Creative and data-driven digital marketing professional with a proven track record of executing successful multi-channel campaigns that build brand awareness and drive engagement.

Strong

Digital marketing manager with five years in paid media and lifecycle, owning a $2.4M annual budget across search, paid social and display for a 180-person software company. Cut customer acquisition cost from $1,840 to $1,180 in two years.

Budget, channels, company size and an acquisition cost with a baseline. A demand-generation director decides whether to keep reading on the first two lines, and this gives them a figure to open the interview with. The weak version fits every marketing resume ever written.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Managed multi-channel digital campaigns and worked cross-functionally with sales and creative teams to optimize performance and increase engagement across all channels.

Strong

  • Grew marketing-sourced pipeline from $9.1M to $16.7M by shifting 38% of the budget out of display and into search.

A pipeline figure with its baseline and the budget decision that moved it. An interviewer can ask what display was doing before, who signed off on the shift and what happened to brand metrics. The weak bullet names no channel, no number and no decision, and would sit on any marketing resume unchanged.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Channels listed without the budget behind them

Fix: Paid search on a $200K budget and paid search on a $5M budget are different jobs. Put the annual spend you personally controlled next to each role, and say whether it was your budget or one you executed against for someone else.

  2. A cost figure with no volume beside it

Fix: Cost per acquisition drops whenever spend drops, and every director knows it. Pair the cost with what held or grew: acquisition cost from $1,840 to $1,180 while new customers stayed above 340 a year. One number alone invites the wrong question.

  3. Leads claimed where pipeline was meant

Fix: Leads are counted inside marketing and discounted outside it. If your company tracks marketing-sourced pipeline, revenue or new logos, use those instead, and say which attribution model produced the figure so it survives the follow-up question.

  4. Universal Analytics still on the skills line

Fix: It was switched off in 2023. Listing it says the resume has not been touched since, which is a hard signal in a field that is judged on being current. Name the stack you run now: GA4, Tag Manager, the reporting layer and the ad platforms.

  5. No link to the work itself

Fix: Recruiters in this field forward a portfolio to the hiring manager before they schedule anything. Put a short link in the header to two or three case studies, each with the problem, the channels, the spend and the result, and keep it metric-first.

08Format and template

Standard headings, one clear column of experience, and a header that holds a portfolio link as well as the contact details. Marketing resumes are read by people who care what a document looks like, so a design with structure is fine here, but keep the section names plain and leave the numbers in the text rather than in charts or rating bars an applicant tracking system cannot read. This example uses Red & Gray Modern. The same content works in Standard, Pink Accent and Beige Border.

09Questions digital marketing managers ask

Which numbers belong on a digital marketing manager resume?

The budget you controlled, the channels it ran across, and two or three outcome figures with baselines: cost per acquisition or customer acquisition cost, return on ad spend, marketing-sourced pipeline or revenue, and conversion rate. Pair every cost figure with the volume it protected. Say which attribution model produced a pipeline number, because that is the first thing an interviewer asks, and never use a figure you could not reproduce from the platform.

Do I need a portfolio as a digital marketer?

A short one, linked in the header. Two or three case studies are enough, each with the problem, the channels used, the spend and the result, and it should read as screenshots and numbers rather than a brand story. Recruiters commonly send the link to the hiring manager before they book a call, so it is doing work a resume bullet cannot. Keep it on a page you control and keep the numbers consistent with the resume.

Which certifications are worth listing?

The ones the platforms issue, because they are checkable and free: the Google Ads certifications for the networks you actually run, a Google Analytics certification, Meta's certification if you buy paid social, and HubSpot's if your stack is built on it. List the issue and expiry dates, since the platform ones lapse in a year or two. Broader marketing credentials exist and are fine to add, but no license is required for this work.

How do I write a digital marketing resume without direct budget ownership?

Say what you did control. Spend you executed against someone else's budget still counts if you name it that way, and so do test counts, audience builds, landing pages shipped, list size and reporting you built. Agency work is usually the fastest route to a large number, because a specialist there touches several accounts at once. Be exact about the boundary rather than vague, because vagueness reads as a claim that will not survive.

How should I handle the shift to GA4 on my resume?

Name the current stack and drop the old one. Universal Analytics stopped processing data in 2023, so listing it marks a resume as stale. If you carried a migration, that is a bullet in its own right: the properties moved, the events rebuilt, and how closely the platform numbers now agree with the system of record. Measurement work is the part of this job that quietly decides whether every other number on the resume is believable.

How long should a digital marketing manager resume be?

One page through about ten years, which the head-of-digital example holds by cutting the earlier role to a single line that keeps its budget and acquisition cost. Two pages are reasonable once you have run several functions or business models. The portfolio link carries the detail a second page would, so use the space on outcome figures rather than on campaign descriptions.
