SEO specialist resume examples & writing guide for 2026

Three SEO resumes at specialist, manager and head-of-organic level, each rendered in the template the page names and pulled apart note by note. Every one states the size of the site, what was fixed on it, and what the fixing earned.

What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Revenue ownership stated plainly

Organic revenue owner, on a 40,000-SKU retailer. SEO is usually posted as a traffic role and hired as a revenue one, and a headline that claims the second is answering the question behind the posting.

  2. 2

    Revenue and sessions together

Six point eight million dollars to $19.4M, with non-brand sessions beside it. Either number alone can be explained away by a pricing change or a brand campaign. The pair is much harder to argue with.

  3. 3

Core Web Vitals and ticket count

Forty-one percent of URLs passing to 92%, across six engineering tickets. Performance work is done by engineers, so naming the tickets says this SEO could get work into someone else's backlog.

  4. 4

A template, not a page count

Fourteen hundred pages on one template earning 38% of non-brand entrances. Publishing volume is a weak claim on its own. A share of entrances attributable to one template is a system that kept working.

  5. 5

    Links earned by original data

Six hundred and ten referring domains from 22 data studies, four cited nationally. Link building written as outreach counts reads as spam. Written as research that got cited, it reads as authority.

  6. 6

Log files as evidence of depth

Forty million requests analyzed and crawl budget moved from 61% to 88% on revenue templates. Very few SEO resumes show log-file work, and it is the clearest signal of technical depth on this page.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

The headline gives the site size and the kind of SEO. The summary reports non-brand clicks rather than total traffic. Each bullet pairs a count with the mechanism that produced it, and the editorial job stays because it produced a routine the team kept.

Typical titles: SEO specialist, SEO analyst, Technical SEO specialist

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

The headline claims revenue rather than traffic. The current role opens with the site, the people and the backlog, then revenue against sessions, performance, the template and the links earned. The publisher years keep three lines, including the log-file analysis and a review process still in use.

Typical titles: SEO manager, Senior SEO specialist, Organic growth manager

  • Senior

    7+ years

Scope replaces the crawl: people led including a developer, sites consolidated, share of bookings moved, local visibility across every location, and a measurement model rebuilt for how search results now behave. The retail years keep one line, and the degree closes the page.

Typical titles: Head of organic search, Director of SEO, SEO lead

04Summary

Weak

Results-oriented SEO professional with a strong understanding of search engine algorithms and a proven ability to increase website traffic and improve keyword rankings.

Strong

SEO manager with five years across publishing and e-commerce, owning organic search for a 40,000-SKU retailer. Grew organic revenue from $6.8M to $19.4M a year while non-brand sessions rose from 340,000 to 910,000 a month.

Site type, catalog size, and revenue paired with non-brand sessions. An SEO lead can see the scale of the technical problem and the commercial result in one read. The weak version claims to understand algorithms nobody has seen and gives no site, no size and no number.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Improved keyword rankings and increased organic traffic through on-page optimization, content improvements and link building best practices.

Strong

  • Took Core Web Vitals passing URLs from 41% to 92% across 40,000 product pages with 6 engineering tickets.

A performance metric with a baseline, the page count it applies to, and the number of tickets it took to get done. An interviewer can ask which six and what the hardest one was. The weak bullet names three activities, no site, no number, and would sit on any SEO resume in the country unchanged.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Traffic reported without separating brand from non-brand

Fix: Branded searches move when marketing runs a campaign, not when you fix a canonical. Report non-brand clicks or sessions with a baseline, and say where the figure came from. An SEO lead will ask for the split in the first interview either way.

  2. No indication of how big the site was

Fix: A 400-page site and a 90,000-URL one are different jobs with different problems. Give URLs, SKUs, templates or locations for every role, because scale is what tells a hiring manager whether your experience transfers to their crawl.

  3. Rankings given with no business number behind them

Fix: Keyword positions are an input, and they move for reasons you did not cause. Carry them through to something the company counts: organic revenue, leads, bookings, pipeline, or non-brand entrances on the templates you built.

  4. Technical work described as best practices

Fix: Name the actual work: canonical rules rewritten, redirect chains resolved, crawl budget shifted on log-file evidence, Core Web Vitals moved, schema types deployed and the share that earned rich results. Best practices is what a resume says when it did none of it.

  5. Nothing about how search results have changed

Fix: Answer panels now take clicks from informational queries, and hiring managers are watching who has noticed. Say how your measurement or your page mix changed in response, and what you now report on instead of impressions.

08Format and template

Standard headings, a header carrying a link to two or three annotated case studies, and numbers in the text rather than in charts an applicant tracking system cannot read. Reverse-chronological order, one page, and a skills line kept short enough that the tool names do not crowd out the work. The before-and-after graph belongs in the portfolio, not on the page. This example uses Red & Gray Modern. The same content works in Standard, Minimal Dark and Beige Border.

09Questions SEO specialists ask

Which numbers belong on an SEO resume?

Non-brand clicks or sessions with a baseline, organic revenue or leads, and the technical counts that show what you did: URLs crawled, duplicates removed, redirect chains resolved, Core Web Vitals passing rate, schema types deployed and the share earning rich results, referring domains earned. Give the site size for every role. Rankings are worth listing only when you carry them through to something the business counts.

How do I show technical SEO experience without being a developer?

By naming the artifacts and the route into the backlog. Canonical and robots rules you specified, redirect maps you wrote, log-file analysis you ran, the tickets you got engineers to take and what shipped. Saying you worked with engineering proves nothing. Saying six tickets moved Core Web Vitals passing URLs from 41% to 92% proves you can get technical work prioritized by people who do not report to you.

Should I put AI search work on my SEO resume?

Yes, if you have done it, and say what changed rather than naming a buzzword. Structured data and entity work you shipped, how you measure visibility in answer panels, and how your reporting changed when clicks on informational queries fell. Hiring managers are looking for people who noticed the shift and adjusted, so a line about moving measurement from impressions to bookings or leads is worth more than a skills-line acronym.

Do SEO certifications matter?

Not much. CareerOneStop lists no license and no recognized SEO credential for this occupation, and the certificates that exist come from tool vendors and training companies. They are harmless on a junior resume and invisible on a senior one. What gets read is the site size you have worked at, the technical work you can describe precisely, and two or three case studies a reader can follow.

How do I write an SEO resume after a site migration went badly?

Write it, with the numbers and what you learned. Migrations are where this job is tested, and every experienced SEO lead has been through one that lost traffic. Give the scope, what you inherited, what you recovered and how long it took. A candidate who can explain a recovery in detail is more convincing than one whose history is all clean lines, because the second one looks like it has never been near a hard problem.

How long should an SEO specialist resume be?

One page. Even nine years fits once earlier roles collapse to a line holding the site size and one commercial number, and the case studies carry the detail a second page would. Cut the tool list first, since every SEO resume has the same five names on it, and keep the counts: URLs, tickets, referring domains, revenue, and the baselines they moved from.
