What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Budget size in the headline

Twenty-six million dollars measured. The budget is the scale of the job for an analyst, the way a list size is for an email marketer, and it tells the reader how much money depends on this person's numbers.

  2. 2

    Money moved by a test

Three point one million dollars shifted from branded search into events. Analysis that never moves a budget is reporting, and this line shows a recommendation that the business acted on at scale.

  3. 3

    Incrementality with a ratio

Branded search earned 0.4x its reported pipeline. Platform numbers overstate credit, and an analyst who can show by how much is answering the question finance asks about every channel.

  4. 4

    The model named and replaced

Last-touch out, a position-based model in, built in dbt and SQL. Naming both models and the three teams now planning against the new one shows the change stuck past the analyst's own desk.

  5. 5

    Forecast accuracy, quarter by quarter

Within 6% of actual in 5 of 6 quarters. A forecast without an error rate is a guess, and stating the miss alongside the hits is what makes a planning team trust the next one.

  6. 6

    Fewer dashboards, on purpose

From 48 Tableau dashboards to 12, chosen by which were opened. Cutting reports nobody reads is a senior habit, and the nine hours a week it saved is a number any analytics lead will ask about.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

Education and an experiment-based capstone sit above the job. Bullets show the analyst fixing the data before reporting it, then one finding that changed a content plan and one report automated. Dashboards appear once, with the team that uses them, rather than as the whole story.

Typical titles: Marketing analyst, Marketing operations analyst, Growth analyst

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

Ownership moves to the front: the budget measured, the channels and the monthly report to the CMO. Testing, attribution and forecasting each get a bullet with a figure a reviewer can question. The first job keeps two lines showing the data model built and the budget it changed.

Typical titles: Senior marketing analyst, Marketing analytics analyst, Marketing science analyst

  • Senior

    7+ years

Scope replaces execution: a team that includes an engineer, a $41M budget across regions, a mix model calibrated by experiments and an efficiency gain at flat spend. Testing becomes a calendar with a rule attached. The first employer folds to one line, and the degree closes the page.

Typical titles: Marketing analytics manager, Director of marketing analytics, Head of marketing science

04Summary

Weak

Data-driven marketing analyst with strong analytical skills and a proven track record of turning complex data into actionable insights that drive business growth.

Strong

Senior marketing analyst with five years in B2B software, owning measurement for a $26M marketing budget at a 1,200-person HR platform. Ran the holdout tests that moved $3.1M from branded search into events, and pipeline held within 2% of plan.

The budget measured, the sector, and one decision the analysis caused with its size. A marketing analytics lead can see the scale of the work and that finance acted on it. The weak version promises insights and growth without a budget, a method or a single number.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Created dashboards and reports to track marketing campaign performance and provided insights to stakeholders across the organization.

Strong

  • Designed 14 holdout tests in 2 years, which showed branded search earned 0.4x its reported pipeline and moved $3.1M into events.

A method, a count, the finding as a ratio and the money that moved. An interviewer can ask how the holdouts were sized and why branded search looked so much better in the platform. The weak bullet describes the job title, names no tool or channel and says nothing about a decision.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Dashboards counted as the achievement

Fix: Built 20 dashboards says you can use the tool. Say what one of them showed and what the team did next: a budget moved, a channel paused, a content plan rewritten. Keep one dashboard bullet at most, with the team that relies on it.

  2. Platform-reported ROAS taken at face value

Fix: Ad platforms claim credit generously, and hiring managers know it. If you report return on ad spend, say how it was measured: a holdout, a geo test or a model. A bullet that shows reported and incremental results side by side reads as senior work.

  3. No budget or volume anywhere

Fix: Measuring a $500,000 program and a $26M one are different jobs with different politics. Put the budget you measured, the number of channels and who you reported to near the top of each role, so the reader can judge the scale.

  4. Attribution named without the model

Fix: Worked on attribution tells a reviewer nothing. Name the model you replaced, the one you built, the tool you built it in and who now uses it. If you moved toward experiments or a mix model, say why the old approach stopped working.

  5. Tools listed with no proof of SQL

Fix: Many interviews for this role include a SQL exercise. Put SQL in a bullet that shows a join or a model you built, not only on the skills line, so the claim is backed before the interviewer tests it.

08Format and template

Reverse-chronological order, standard section headings, and every result written as text, since an applicant tracking system cannot read a chart. Put the sector and the data stack in the headline. If you have a public analysis, such as a capstone notebook or a write-up of a test design with the data anonymized, link it from the header. This example uses Red & Gray Modern. The same content works in Standard, Pink Accent and Beige Border.

09Questions marketing analysts ask

Do marketing analysts need SQL on their resume?

Yes. Most postings at every level list it, and many interviews include a live or take-home SQL exercise. Show it in a bullet rather than only on the skills line: a model that joins ad spend to opportunities, an analysis of webinar pipeline, a report you automated. Python or R helps for modeling work and becomes expected at senior level, where mix models and test analysis often run in code.

How do I describe attribution work without overclaiming?

Name the model and the decision. Say which model you replaced, what you built instead and in which tool, and which teams plan against it now. If your attribution work showed a channel was overcredited, give the ratio and what moved as a result. Avoid claiming attribution proved a channel caused revenue. Only a holdout or geo test can show that, and reviewers in this field will notice the difference.

Should I put marketing mix modeling on my resume?

Only if you have built or run one, and say how far you went. Open-source tools from Google and Meta have made mix models common, so many candidates now list the term. What separates you is the data window, how you checked the model against experiments, and the budget decision that followed. If you have only used a vendor's model output, describe that honestly as interpreting results rather than building the model.

Is a certification worth it for a marketing analyst?

Rarely as the main signal. BLS lists no license for this occupation and describes certification as voluntary. The American Marketing Association offers professional certifications that cover analytics within broader marketing exams, and platform courses can help a career changer. Hiring managers for analyst roles mostly test SQL and reasoning directly, so a project or a work bullet that shows a real analysis outweighs any certificate on the page.

How do I move from marketing analyst into marketing science?

Show experiment design and modeling on your resume before you have the title. Bullets about holdout tests you sized, geo tests you ran, forecasts with stated error, or a mix model you helped calibrate all point that way. Python or R in a bullet matters more here than in reporting roles. Titles at the next step include senior marketing analyst, marketing science analyst and marketing analytics manager, depending on the company.

What results should a junior marketing analyst list?

Data you fixed, findings that changed a plan, and time you saved. A junior analyst rarely moves budgets alone, but fixing tracking so more pipeline has a source, finding which webinars actually produced pipeline, or automating a weekly report are all specific and checkable. Add a capstone or side project that designed a test if you have one. It shows you understand measurement beyond dashboards.
