What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Proposals and awards up front

The headline names the two kinds of submission this coordinator owns. At an engineering or architecture firm those are the jobs that fill the week, and the reader wants to see them before the summary.

  2. 2

    Hit rate beside the volume

From 29% to 41% on 112 proposals a year. A hit rate without a count could rest on four proposals, and a count without a rate could be busywork. Together they describe a pursuit desk.

  3. 3

    Go/no-go cut the pile

Pursuits fell from 150 to 112 while the hit rate rose. Saying no to weak pursuits is hard to show on paper, and this bullet names the scorecard that did it and what it changed.

  4. 4

    Fees won, in dollars

Eighteen point six million dollars in fees, up from $11.2M. A good hit rate does not always mean revenue, so the dollar figure is the number that tells a principal the proposals were worth winning.

  5. 5

    Award narratives reused

Eleven submissions a year, six wins, and the narratives reused in 40 proposals. Awards cost staff time, and showing that the writing fed the pursuit pipeline turns them from vanity work into sales material.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

Education sits above experience and the headline names the firm type and size. Bullets count what was produced and on what schedule: proposals and deadlines met, library records, booths and their budget. The theater internship stays because it shows design work at a stated scale.

Typical titles: Marketing coordinator, Proposal coordinator, Marketing assistant

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

Ownership moves to the front: two market sectors, the hit rate with the proposal count, and fees won in dollars. Go/no-go discipline gets its own bullet. The first job shrinks to two lines that keep the library and a trade show budget finished under target.

Typical titles: Senior marketing coordinator, Marketing specialist, Proposal manager

  • Senior

    7+ years

Scope replaces production: a team and a budget, fees won with volume held flat, conversion measured in dollars, a five-office rebrand and a win-loss program. The coordinator years fold to one line with a hit rate, and the CPSM sits in the headline and in certifications.

Typical titles: Marketing manager, Director of marketing, Business development manager

04Summary

Weak

Highly organized marketing coordinator with strong communication skills and a proven ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Strong

Senior marketing coordinator with five years in engineering marketing, running pursuits for a 380-person firm's transportation and water groups. Raised the hit rate from 29% to 41% on 112 proposals a year, worth $18.6M in fees won.

Firm size, the two sectors, the proposal count, the hit rate and the fees. A marketing manager can see the size of the desk and what it produced in one read. The weak version claims organization without a single deadline, project or number to prove it.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Assisted with the preparation of proposals and marketing materials and coordinated various events throughout the year.

Strong

  • Increased the hit rate from 29% to 41% with a go/no-go scorecard that cut pursuits from 150 to 112 a year.

The mechanism, the before and after, and the volume it changed. Fewer, better pursuits is the lesson most professional-services firms learn slowly, and a coordinator who built the scorecard can explain it in an interview. The weak bullet opens with assisted, names no proposal count and says nothing about what was won.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. The job description pasted in as bullets

Fix: Coordinated events and assisted with proposals is what every posting says. Count what you produced: proposals a month, booths a year, the budget you tracked, the deadlines you met. The posting is the job, and your resume has to show how much of it you did.

  2. Follower growth as the only result

Fix: In professional services, posts rarely win a contract on their own. If social is part of your job, keep one bullet for it, then give the work that brings in revenue its own lines: proposals, award submissions, events and the fees they led to.

  3. A hit rate with no volume or dollars

Fix: A 50% hit rate on four proposals is a different job from 41% on 112. Put the count beside the rate, and add fees won where you can. A good hit rate does not always mean revenue, and principals know it.

  4. Design tools named with nothing made in them

Fix: InDesign and Canva on a skills line are claims. Say what you produced: proposal layouts, qualification packages, project sheets, booth graphics. Link two or three redacted spreads from the header if the firm allows it.

  5. Awards and rankings left off entirely

Fix: Coordinators at design and engineering firms often run the awards calendar and the industry surveys. Those submissions take real writing and project selection. Count what you entered and what won, and say where the material went next.

08Format and template

Reverse-chronological order, standard section headings, and every count written as text so an applicant tracking system can read it. Put the firm type and size in the headline, because coordinator work differs between a law firm, a freight company and an engineering practice. Link a short work page with two or three redacted proposal spreads from the header. This example uses Red & Gray Modern. The same content works in Standard, Pink Accent and Beige Border.

09Questions marketing coordinators ask

How do I show proposal work on a marketing coordinator resume?

Count it. Give the number of proposals and qualification packages you produced in a year or a stated period, the deadlines you met, and the hit rate if your firm tracks it. Name the tool you laid them out in. If you built a library of staff resumes and project sheets, say how many records it holds and how much time it saved on each proposal. Fees won, when you know them, are the strongest line of all.

Should I put my hit rate on my resume if it is low?

Put the change, not just the number. A hit rate that rose from 22% to 30% after you introduced a go/no-go review says more than a high rate inherited from a firm with long client relationships. Always give the proposal count beside it. If your firm tracks fees won against fees pursued, use that conversion rate too. It is the stricter measure, and principals respect a coordinator who reports it.

Is the CPSM worth it for a marketing coordinator?

In architecture, engineering and construction marketing, it is the credential the field recognizes. The Society for Marketing Professional Services grants it, and its six domains run from research and planning to proposals, promotional activity and management. It signals that you understand the business side, not just production. Outside professional services, few hiring managers will know it, so put your proposal and event numbers first either way.

What title comes after marketing coordinator?

Usually senior marketing coordinator, then marketing specialist, proposal manager or marketing manager, depending on the firm. Larger professional-services firms split the work, so a coordinator who mostly writes proposals tends toward proposal manager, and one who runs events and campaigns tends toward marketing manager. Your resume should lean toward the path you want, with the bullets that prove it at the top of each role.

How do I describe event work if I only handled logistics?

Logistics with numbers is still event marketing. Give the number of events or booths, the budget you tracked and whether you came in under it, the shipments and vendors you managed, and the leads or meetings booked if marketing measured them. A line like six trade show booths on a $38,000 budget tells a hiring manager you can run their conference calendar without supervision.

Should a marketing coordinator include a portfolio link?

Yes, if you design anything. Coordinators lay out proposals, project sheets, booth graphics and social posts, and a hiring manager wants to see the craft. Keep it to two or three pieces on one page, redact client names and fees from any proposal, and link it from the header. A shared folder of fifty files is worse than no link, because nobody will open more than a few.
