Sales & business development resume examples
A sales manager reads attainment first. Quota, percentage of quota reached, and the years it was reached are the three numbers that decide whether the rest of the resume gets read. Put them in the first bullet of every sales role, in the same format each time, so they can be compared down the page. Add the rank when it is good: second of 40 representatives, top 10% of the region, President's Club three years running. Consistency across years is the strongest signal you can send in this field.
Describe the motion, because sales jobs are not interchangeable. State whether the role was inbound or outbound, the segment (small business, mid-market, enterprise), the product category, the average contract value and the sales cycle length. A representative who closed six-figure enterprise deals over nine-month cycles is hired for different roles than one who worked a high-velocity inbound queue, and a resume that leaves the motion unstated gets sorted into the wrong pile.
Numbers beyond quota show how you sell. Pipeline generated, meetings booked, conversion rate from demo to close, average deal size, net revenue retention, win rate against named competitors, territory growth year over year. For business development, add partnerships signed and the revenue they produced. For account roles, add renewal rate and expansion revenue. Every bullet should carry at least one of these. Name the product and the buyer as well, because a reader wants to know what you sold and to whom.
Tools and methods matter in screening. Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach or Salesloft, Gong, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, and a methodology such as MEDDIC, Challenger, SPIN or Sandler. List them in a skills line and mention the methodology where it changed a result. Keep the resume to one page with a two-line summary stating segment, product category and best attainment year. A sales resume is a pitch, and the reader expects it to close quickly.

Questions about sales & business development resumes
What if I missed quota in some years?
Report the years you hit it and the attainment you reached in the others, with context where it helps: a new territory, a product launch, a reorganization. A resume that shows 92% in a hard year next to 130% in a good one reads as honest and consistent. Leaving years blank invites the question anyway.
How do I write a sales resume with no sales experience?
Find the numbers in what you have done. Retail associates have sales per hour and conversion. Fundraisers have dollars raised and donor counts. Servers have check averages. Recruiters have placements. Present each with the same quota-style framing a sales manager expects, then add a skills line with the CRM and outreach tools you have learned.
Should business development resumes look different from account executive resumes?
The shape is the same and the metrics differ. Business development reports pipeline generated, meetings booked, qualification rate and the revenue those opportunities closed. Account executives report closed revenue, attainment and deal size. If you have done both, keep each role's bullets in its own vocabulary so a reader sees the progression.
