Python developer resume examples & writing guide for 2026

Three Python developer resumes, from typed and tested Django endpoints to a lead engineer running a meter-data platform, rendered in a real template and annotated line by line. Each one counts what a Python hiring manager checks: frameworks, tests, types, latency and versions.

What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Services, queue and domain

Python developer, FastAPI services and Celery ingestion, smart-meter data. FastAPI is now the most used Python web framework among surveyed developers, and the domain tells the reader the data volume.

  2. 2

    Ingestion at daily volume

Ingestion on Celery and Redis for 2.1B readings a day, with 99.9% on time. Volume and timeliness are how a data service is judged, and both are in the bullet.

  3. 3

    Packaging made fast

Nine repositories standardized on uv, with CI installs from six minutes to 40 seconds. The new packaging tools are spreading fast, and a measured switch shows judgment rather than fashion.

  4. 4

An API with a latency budget

FastAPI services for 4.6M meters and 30 utilities at p99 under 300 ms. Postings ask for secure, well-tested and performant services, and a percentile shows the third.

  5. 5

An upgrade that paid for itself

Nine services moved from Python 3.9 to 3.13, cutting compute cost 24%. Most surveyed developers are not on the latest Python, so an upgrade with a cost result stands out.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

The degree leads, then two years in four counted bullets: Django REST endpoints with the cities that use them, tests on fee rules with coverage, strict typing with bugs caught, and a slow ORM query fixed with its percentile. The internship and part-time year keep one line with the hours saved.

Typical titles: Python developer I, Junior Python developer, Backend developer, Python

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

The default view. Six years of Python in the units a lead weighs: FastAPI services with a latency percentile, ingestion with daily volume and on-time rate, a version upgrade with its cost result, packaging standardized with CI time saved, and a Rust extension where Python was too slow. The permitting role keeps one line.

Typical titles: Python developer, Backend engineer, Python, Senior Python developer

  • Senior

    7+ years

Platform leadership replaces single services: seven engineers and 15 services with availability, async ingestion that cut data delay, cloud cost cut through an upgrade, an AI service grounded in meter data, and typing standards raised across repositories. The developer and permitting years keep one line each.

Typical titles: Lead Python engineer, Principal Python developer, Python tech lead

04Summary

Weak

Passionate Python developer with strong experience in Django, Flask and data analysis, eager to build scalable, efficient solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Strong

Python developer with six years in civic and energy software, the last four on smart-meter data for 30 utilities. Built FastAPI services for 4.6M meters and redesigned ingestion for 2.1B readings a day.

A Python hiring manager reads which kind of Python, at what scale, before anything else. The strong version gives the framework, the domain and the volumes. The weak version mixes web and data work with no sign of which the candidate actually does.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Developed Python applications and REST APIs using Flask and Django, improving system performance and reliability.

Strong

  • Upgraded 9 services from Python 3.9 to 3.13, cutting compute cost 24% with only dependency changes.

Modifying existing software to adapt it to new versions and improve performance is a core task for software developers, and in Python the upgrade itself often pays. The strong bullet names the versions, the number of services and the cost result. A reviewer can ask what broke along the way, while the weak bullet names two frameworks and nothing else.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Web and data Python mixed together

Fix: Sample resumes list Django, Flask, NumPy, pandas and TensorFlow on one line. Python spans web services, data and machine learning, and postings hire for one. Lead with the kind of Python you do, and move the other kind to one line or leave it off.

  2. No tests or types on the page

Fix: Hiring managers reviewing Python portfolios look for type hints and tests that cover failure cases, not only the happy path. Count the tests you wrote, name the checker you run in CI, and say what it caught, as the entry example does with mypy.

  3. Python 3 with no version

Fix: Most surveyed Python developers are not on the latest release, and upgrading is one of the cheapest performance wins available. Name the versions you run, any upgrade you led and what it saved. It tells a reviewer you keep a codebase healthy, not just working.

  4. Speed claims with no measurement

Fix: Sample resumes say processing time fell by some percentage. Give the percentile before and after, the load it was measured under and the change you made: a query fix, a task queue, async code or a compiled extension for the hot path.

  5. Tutorial projects as the only proof

Fix: For a junior developer, a complete project beats several unfinished ones. A repository that runs from a fresh clone, with a database, type hints, tests and a README explaining the design, is what reviewers say they open. List one with its users or stars.

08Format and template

One column and one page, in the order summary, experience, education, skills. Put your Python framework and your testing and typing tools in the headline, and keep latency percentiles, daily volumes, coverage and version upgrades as text in the bullets. Link to a public repository only if it runs cleanly from a fresh clone, and drop older roles to one line.

09Questions Python developers ask

Should a Python developer resume focus on Django or FastAPI?

On whichever you have shipped with, named plainly. Among surveyed Python developers, FastAPI is now used by the largest share, with Django and Flask close behind, and many teams run more than one. O*NET's posting counts list Django in 1 percent of software developer postings and FastAPI not at all, so the framework matters less to screeners than what you built with it.

Is Python in demand for software jobs?

Yes. In O*NET's count of 2025 postings for software developers, Python appears in 29 percent, the most of any language, ahead of Java at 25 percent and SQL at 24 percent. Much of that demand is for data and AI work, so a web-focused Python developer should say so in the headline and show services, users and latency rather than notebooks.

How much do Python developers make?

The handbook counts Python developers with software developers, whose May 2025 median was $135,980, with the lowest tenth under $82,460 and the highest tenth over $214,670. Industry moves it: software publishers paid a median $164,550, finance and insurance $135,460 and computer systems design $132,050. Python roles in AI infrastructure and finance tend to pay toward the top.

Are Python certifications worth getting?

Rarely for an experienced developer. CareerOneStop's list of 75 certifications for software developers includes one Python credential, Logicwalker's Python Developer Certification, and few postings ask for any. A clean repository with tests and types says more. If you are changing careers, a certification can help get your resume read, but list it below your projects and experience, not above them.

Should a Python developer learn Rust?

It is worth knowing the basics. The Python community's own advice this year is to learn enough Rust to write or read extensions for hot paths, not to replace Python, and many popular Python tools are now written in it. The mid example shows the pattern: one function rewritten with PyO3 and a measured batch-time cut, with everything else left in Python.
