Housekeeper resume examples & writing guide for 2026

Three housekeeper resumes at first-hotel, lead and inspector level, rendered in a real template and annotated line by line. Each one counts what an executive housekeeper checks first: rooms or credits a shift, the first-pass inspection rate, requests closed and the floors covered.

What makes this resume work

Each marker on the page has a note here. Press a marker to jump to its note.

  1. 1

    Credits, not just rooms

Four hundred fifty credits a shift in the headline. Many hotels now assign rooms through apps that weigh checkouts and stayovers in credits, and a credit count tells a manager your pace on their own scale.

  2. 2

    Pace with the pass rate

About fourteen rooms a shift and 97% passing inspection the first time. Speed without the inspection result means nothing to an inspector, so they share one line.

  3. 3

    New attendants through probation

Nine new room attendants trained on brand standards and room status codes, all through probation in 90 days. The step from room attendant to lead is coaching, and this is it on paper.

  4. 4

    A rotation finished on time

Ninety-six rooms on two floors deep-cleaned over six weeks, all back in service on schedule. Rotation cleaning takes rooms out of inventory, so finishing on time is the part the front office notices.

  5. 5

    The first hotel, one line

Fifteen checkout and stayover rooms a shift at a 148-room hotel, 95% passing first time over two years. It is the pace the lead role was built on, and one line is enough to show it.

03The same resume at three levels

The tinted row is the level shown above.

  • Entry-level

    0–2 years

The START credential and the diploma come first, then the first hotel job in four counted bullets: cleanings with the first-pass inspection rate, maintenance issues reported, found items handled to policy, and a clean chemical-safety year. The residential crew job keeps one line with its client renewals.

Typical titles: Room attendant, Guest room attendant, Housekeeper

  • Mid-level

    3–6 years

The default view. A lead room attendant in the units an executive housekeeper tracks: credits a shift with the first-pass rate, new attendants trained through probation, linen loss cut in dollars, guest requests on a clock, and a deep-clean rotation finished. The first hotel keeps one line.

Typical titles: Lead room attendant, Room attendant, House attendant

  • Senior

    7+ years

Quality replaces pace: rooms inspected a shift by type with release times, re-cleans cut by coaching, a guest cleanliness score raised, VIP and early check-in rooms coordinated, and a hotel-wide deep-clean rotation led. The lead and room attendant years keep one line each.

Typical titles: Housekeeping inspector, Lead housekeeper, Housekeeping supervisor

04Summary

Weak

Hardworking and reliable housekeeper with a strong attention to detail who takes pride in keeping guest rooms clean, comfortable and welcoming for every guest.

Strong

Room attendant with five years in hotel housekeeping, the last three as a lead at a 420-room conference hotel: 450 HotSOS credits a shift at a 97% first-pass inspection rate, 9 new attendants trained, linen loss cut 18%.

An executive housekeeper reads pace, quality and whether you can lead. The strong version gives all three on the hotel's own scale, the credits and the inspection rate, plus the people trained. The weak version says what every applicant says.

05Bullets

Weak

  • Cleaned guest rooms and bathrooms, made beds, restocked amenities and vacuumed hallways to keep the hotel clean.

Strong

  • Earned 450 HotSOS credits a shift on average in 2025, about 14 rooms, with 97% passing inspection the first time.

Hotels that assign rooms through an app count work in credits that weigh checkouts and stayovers, and inspectors pass or fail each room against the brand standard. The strong bullet gives both, the pace on the hotel's scale and the quality behind it, in one line an executive housekeeper can check against the app. The weak bullet lists the job description back to the reader.

07Mistakes to avoid

  1. Rooms a shift with no inspection result

Fix: Inspector postings describe checking vacant, occupied and checkout rooms against brand standards. A room count alone tells a manager nothing about quality. Put the share of your rooms that passed inspection the first time beside the count.

  2. The room mix left out

Fix: A checkout takes longer than a stayover, and many hotels now weigh both in credits through a housekeeping app. Write your credits a shift if your hotel uses them, or say how many of your rooms were checkouts.

  3. No hotel system named

Fix: Supervisor postings this year list HotSOS, OnQ and Opera as a plus, and room attendants log requests and room status in them every shift. Name the system you used and what you logged in it: issues, requests, found items.

  4. Reporting work treated as an extra

Fix: Reporting damage, theft and found articles to a supervisor is one of the occupation's core tasks, and every room attendant posting asks for it. Count the maintenance issues you reported and the found items you logged to policy.

  5. No sign of the next step

Fix: The housekeeping ladder runs from room attendant to lead, inspector and executive housekeeper, and inspector postings ask for months of inspection experience and coaching. Show anyone you trained, rooms you checked for others, or a rotation you organized.

08Format and template

Beige Border sets each section off with a rule, so an executive housekeeper finds the hotel, the credits and the inspection rate quickly. This example uses Beige Border. The same content moves into Standard, Brown Sidebar or Warm Classic. Whichever you choose, keep the hotel's room count and your pace in the headline, the housekeeping system inside the bullets, and any credential with its date.

09Questions housekeepers ask

How many rooms should I say I clean per shift?

Say what you actually clean, in the unit your hotel uses. Many hotels now assign rooms through apps that weigh checkouts and stayovers in credits, so a credit count is more honest than a room count. If your hotel counts rooms, say how many were checkouts. Then add the share that passed inspection the first time. The mid example writes both: credits a shift, about how many rooms that is, and its first-pass rate.

Do I need a certification to work as a housekeeper?

No. O*NET finds no license in any state, and 45 percent of its respondents say a new hire needs less than a high school diploma. CareerOneStop lists 9 certifications for the occupation. The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute's START Certified Guestroom Attendant fits hotels, and the International Executive Housekeepers Association's environmental services credentials fit hospitals and senior roles. The entry and mid examples hold the START credential and the senior one the IEHA specialist credential.

How much do housekeepers make, and where do they work?

The 2025 median for maids and housekeeping cleaners was $35,510 a year, or $17.07 an hour. Hotels and other accommodation employed 31.4 percent of them in 2025, private households 19.8 percent, nursing and residential care 9.4 percent and hospitals 6.5 percent. Each setting reads a resume differently, so name yours in the headline. A hotel wants the room count and the inspection rate, and a hospital wants the cleaning protocols and the units covered.

How do I move up from room attendant to inspector?

Start doing the inspector's work before you have the title. Inspector postings ask for months of inspection experience in a similar hotel, coaching room attendants and working in the property system. Supervisor postings add training and productivity. O*NET's related occupations include first-line supervisors of housekeeping and janitorial workers. Write the people you trained, the rooms you checked and the rotation you organized, with numbers, as the mid example does.

Can hotel housekeeping experience transfer to hospital environmental services?

Yes, and O*NET treats it as the same occupation: environmental services aide and worker are among its sample job titles, and its software list includes bed control systems used in hospitals. Hospitals employed 6.5 percent of maids and housekeeping cleaners in 2025. Lead with disinfecting, chemical safety and your inspection record, and name the cleaning protocols you were trained on. CareerOneStop also lists the American Hospital Association's healthcare environmental services credential.
